The position of Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Manager Statewide Maintenance contributing to the effective functioning of the Tasmania Prison Service.
This position contributes by:
- supervising construction and/or repairs and other maintenance activities undertaken by employees or under contract within the TPS;
- the efficient management of maintenance resources for buildings and building services at all prison institutions within the State;
- the development, implementation and management of ongoing preventative maintenance programs for all plant equipment in accordance with Departmental guidelines; and
- the implementation of specific work as may be directed by the Manager State-wide Maintenance.

Details of Appointment

Salary of $83,011 - $95,547 pa. Starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.

Working Environment
Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located Statewide at Risdon Vale, Hobart, Burnie and Launceston in Tasmania. This position is based at Risdon Vale.
The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time).
Duties
- Report and provide support to the Statewide Maintenance Manager.
- Supervise and co-ordinate the duties of the maintenance staff and maintenance contractors.
- Supervise and co-ordinate prison buildings and building service maintenance.
- Supervise and enact on compliance with Maintenance Department operational and security requirements in line with the Tasmania Prison Service Performance and Compliance Framework and related policies.
- Engage outside contractors to carry out specialist maintenance work beyond the scope of prison staff, and examine and certify the completion of work performed.
- Plan, co-ordinate and supervise the performance of special tasks and projects as required.
- Assist the Statewide Maintenance Manager in the management of the Prison Service Maintenance Budget to ensure compliance with the Public Account Act and Financial Management and Audit Act requirements, government procurement guidelines and TPS policies and procedures.

Desirable Requirements
- A trade, or equivalent qualification related to facility maintenance is highly desirable.
- A relevant qualification, skill, or demonstrated employment background in engineering, facility maintenance, and/or project management is also desirable.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a comparable role.
- A current and valid driver’s licence.
