About the role

As a Valuer, you'll help shape Tasmania’s valuation landscape through high-quality professional practice and meaningful public service. You’ll work across a diverse range of statutory, advisory and acquisition valuations, contributing to decisions that support government, local councils and the Tasmanian community. From complex valuation projects to stakeholder engagement and quality assurance activities, no two days are the same.

These opportunities are available at both Band 1 (graduate/early career) and Band 2 (experienced) levels, with responsibilities tailored to your skills and experience. Whether you're a recent graduate looking to launch your career or an experienced Valuer seeking greater variety and professional growth, you'll be supported by a collaborative team environment, structured development opportunities and clear career progression pathways.

These are permanent positions that can be based in Launceston or Devonport, working 73.5 hours per fortnight (or minimum 58.8 hours per fortnight by negotiation).

In this role, you will:

• Undertake statutory valuations in accordance with the Valuation of Land Act 2001 and Land Acquisition Act 1993, contributing to valuation outcomes across Tasmania.
• Deliver client, statutory and compulsory acquisition valuations, including participation in negotiations towards settlement.
• Provide professional valuation advice to the Valuer-General and a broad range of stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with councils, government agencies, contractors and public bodies, and represent the Office of the Valuer-General when required.
• Support statewide quality assurance activities and contribute to the continuous improvement of valuation services, systems and work practices.

Our ideal candidate has

• Sound knowledge of contemporary valuation principles and practices.
• Strong analytical, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to apply valuation methodologies and exercise professional judgement.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex valuation matters and build effective stakeholder relationships.
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative and professional team environment.
• A commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes, maintaining professional standards and driving continuous improvement.

Position requirements

• A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
• A Degree in Business Studies (or similar), majoring in property valuations, as provided by a university.
• For Band 2 appointments, applicants must meet the necessary qualifications to practice as a Land Valuer in accordance with the Land Valuers Act 2001.
