The Team

The Communications Department at the Launceston General Hospital is critical to the efficient and effective delivery of communication systems within the Hospital. Switchboard operators can expect to work in a fast-paced, supportive working environment.

This is a challenging and rewarding role including taking and paging emergency code calls from within the hospital.  Switchboard operators also carry out a range of administrative tasks to facilitate the efficient contact of duty and on-call doctors and ancillary hospital staff, in support of providing a professional and timely response to patient care.

The Role

The Telephonist at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is responsible for providing clients with a professional and efficient service regarding incoming and outgoing telephone enquiries.

  • Confidentiality
  • Situational awareness and the ability to work within a team environment or individually, when required.
  • Competence using computer-based software including Microsoft Office suite.

You will need

  • Assist to enquiries from general public and hospital employees.
  • Operate in-house and wide-area paging systems for Communications to Hospital staff.
  • Work in a fast paced environment.

Details of appointment

  • Multiple Permanent, full and part time, shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as you can join us.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$68,854 to $73,947 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2025
