The Team

As the major clinical teaching and research centre, Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

Our large social work team works collaboratively to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred social work services that support individuals & families across complex health settings. As a Senior Social Worker, the team provides advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and oversight of best‑practice interventions, ensuring care is ethical, culturally responsive, and aligned with legislative and policy frameworks.

The Role

Join our team delivering culturally safe, high-quality social work services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families. As a senior clinician, you will provide specialist support, advocacy and leadership within a multidisciplinary environment, ensuring care is respectful, inclusive and responsive to cultural and community needs. This is an Aboriginal identified position, contributing to improved health outcomes and equity for Aboriginal communities.

You will need

  • Aboriginality (identified role) with strong connection to, and understanding of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Proven capacity to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams building strong partnerships across community & health services
  • Demonstrated experience delivering culturally safe, client-centred social work services
  • Well-developed problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage complexity and contribute to service improvement

Details of appointment

Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 30 September 2027.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$117,272 to $126,182 per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Union Wages Agreement 2025

Allowances

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $123,487 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Aboriginality. The Head of the State Service has determined that this position is an Aboriginal identified position and that it will be filled in accordance with the guidelines for Aboriginal recruitment
  • Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • Current Driver’s Licence
