The Team

The Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (PTAS) Team within the Department of Health Tasmania is dedicated to supporting Tasmanians who need to travel to access essential specialist medical services. The team works closely with patients, healthcare providers, and regional services to assess applications, provide guidance on eligibility, and facilitate travel and accommodation assistance in accordance with PTAS guidelines. Committed to delivering responsive, compassionate, and customer-focused service, the team helps reduce barriers to healthcare access while ensuring accurate administration and efficient support for patients across the state.

The Role

  • Establish eligibility of patients and their escorts for financial assistance for travel and accommodation under the PTAS.
  • Receive and effectively managing all incoming telephone, email and face to face patient travel enquiries.
  • Facilitate airline and accommodation reservations for patients and approved escorts.

You will need

  • Understanding of the Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (PTAS), or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients and staff at all levels.
  • Demonstrated keyboard and computer skills, including the ability to be trained in finance database operations and patient information systems.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months. 

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$68,854 to $73,947 pro rata per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Plus 25% Casual Loading - Equivalent of $43.38 to $46.59 per hour.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.
