The Team

At the Department of Health Tasmania, we are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of our communities through the delivery of safe, high‑quality and sustainable health services. Guided by our CARE values — Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence — we place people at the centre of everything we do.

This role is based at North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital (NESMH) in Scottsdale, one of eight district hospitals across Northern Tasmania. The successful applicant will work closely with fellow Directors of Nursing across the district hospitals as part of a collaborative leadership group, contributing to shared strategic goals, service sustainability and consistent, high-quality care across the region.

Scottsdale offers a strong, welcoming community and an enviable lifestyle, located within easy reach of Tasmania’s beautiful beaches and award‑winning golf courses making this an exceptional opportunity to combine professional leadership with lifestyle balance.

The Role

As Director of Nursing, you will provide senior clinical and operational leadership across emergency, subacute inpatient and community-based services within Hospitals North. Working in partnership with the Assistant Director of Nursing- Primary Health North and other senior leaders, you will lead the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of services to ensure they are responsive to community needs and aligned with Department of Health objectives.

Driven by a commitment to social justice and contemporary nursing practice, you will be responsible for the professional and clinical governance of nursing services within your area of responsibility. You will ensure services meet legislative, regulatory and accreditation standards while fostering a culture of quality improvement, safety and accountability.

In this role, you will manage and monitor human, financial and physical resources, ensuring their effective and efficient use. You will lead and support multidisciplinary teams, strengthen partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to service planning, policy development and organisational improvement initiatives.

You will play a key leadership role in promoting workforce capability and sustainability through professional development, performance management and the coordination of learning opportunities. By championing best practice, research and innovation, you will support the delivery of high‑quality care across rural and community-based health settings.

As a senior member of the clinical management group, you will provide high‑level professional advice, represent the Department on committees and working groups, and contribute to broader clinical and service delivery priorities.

This is a unique opportunity to lead nursing services within a diverse rural health environment, make a meaningful impact on community health outcomes, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of healthcare delivery across Northern Tasmania.
