Macquarie Point Development Corporation

Macquarie Point is one of Tasmania’s most iconic and strategically significant redevelopment projects — a rare opportunity to shape a precinct of national importance.

We are seeking an exceptional senior design leader to join our team as Design Manager, driving design excellence, coordination and delivery across the Macquarie Point Precinct, including the multipurpose stadium and broader mixed-use development.

This is a landmark role for a strategic and solutions-focused professional with deep expertise in architecture, design coordination and complex project environments who thrives in influence, integration and design leadership.

About the Role

As the Design Manager, you will lead and oversee design activities across a portfolio of complex capital projects. You will:

  • Lead pre-construction design activities across multiple large-scale projects to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Provide expert architectural, design and technical advice to the Executive, Board and governance bodies.
  • Drive the development and implementation of design strategies, guidelines and reporting frameworks across the precinct.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, consultants and contractors to deliver integrated design outcomes.
  • Oversee procurement-ready design documentation and support tender and contracting processes.
  • Review and approve design documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory, technical and project requirements.
  • Lead Building Information Modelling (BIM) strategy and implementation across the Corporation.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement to resolve design challenges and align outcomes across government, partners and delivery teams.
  • Identify and manage design risks, including safety in design and project interface coordination.

What You Will Bring

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

Design Leadership and Delivery Expertise

  • Proven experience leading design outcomes across complex infrastructure, urban development or major capital projects.
  • Strong capability coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver aligned, construction-ready design solutions.

Strategic and Technical Capability

  • Deep knowledge of architectural, urban design and construction processes, standards and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to develop innovative, practical solutions while managing risk, ambiguity and competing priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Influence

  • Highly developed communication and negotiation skills, with experience managing complex stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and resolve competing interests to achieve high-quality design results.

Governance and Risk

  • Experience establishing design governance frameworks, guidelines and reporting processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, mitigate and escalate design risks effectively.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Architecture or a related discipline (essential).
  • Significant experience in design delivery, architecture or urban development (highly regarded).

Why Join Us?

At the Macquarie Point Development Corporation, how we work matters just as much as what we deliver. We are driven by:

  • Community – placing people and stakeholders at the centre of everything we do.
  • Innovation – delivering world-class outcomes through creative thinking and collaboration.
  • Integrity – acting with transparency, professionalism and accountability.

You will join a forward-thinking organisation committed to delivering a vibrant, inclusive precinct that will shape Tasmania’s future for generations.

Ready to Shape the Future of Macquarie Point?

If you are a strategic and highly capable design leader looking to make a lasting impact on one of Australia’s most significant urban renewal projects, we would love to hear from you.
