The Team
Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Haematology Department within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for all haematology and haemostasis testing in Tasmania. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Role
- Oversee and coordinate daily operations and staff within the Haematology and Coagulation sections of the Core Laboratory.
- Perform routine and specialised diagnostic pathology tests with accurate and full documentation of results and reports.
- Interpret laboratory results, ensuring all result and process verification procedures are complied with, and liaise with the requesting medical and nursing staff as appropriate.
You will need
- Demonstrated practical experience and theoretical knowledge relevant to diagnostic haematology and coagulation testing and interpretation of results.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to organise, plan and coordinate staff and oversee the daily operations of a pathology laboratory.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory and accreditation requirements relevant to Haematology and Coagulation testing and a proven capability to implement and/or maintain such

Details of appointment
Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$117,272 to $126,182 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2025.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

- Please note that access to salaries beyond $126,182 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

Eligibility
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution.
- Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology
Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:
- Relevant post graduate qualifications in the field of activity of the Department.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and evidence of an ongoing professional contribution.
- Demonstrated management and communication skills.
