The Team

This role is based within Spencer Clinic, a Mental Health Inpatient Unit that offers consumers 19 inpatient beds, including 2 bed high-dependency unit. Spencer Clinic is located within the North-West Regional Hospital, barely 5 minutes from Burnie's CBD.

Reporting to the Nurse Unit Manager, you will contribute to our consumers health outcomes by working within an effective multidisciplinary team through their recovery journey. No two days are the same in mental health. Some days may be structured with planned duties and others may involve responding to an emergency and thinking on your feet.  But we’ll make sure you’re fully inducted and welcomed into our team.  

The Role

The Attendant within Spencer Clinic will - 

• Provide support and assistance to the nursing and medical staff in relation to the care and safety of patients at the Spencer Clinic.
• Participate in the maintenance of a safe, clean and tidy ward environment.
• Promote the principles of quality health care and customer service and foster a positive environment for patient outcomes.

You will need 

• Demonstrated understanding of conflict management techniques. Knowledge of, or the ability to acquire a thorough understanding of, non-violent aggression management response techniques and non-violent crisis intervention techniques and their application in a hospital environment through approved training. 
• Demonstrated understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic boundaries with patients.
• Sound interpersonal communication skills including written and verbal skills, together with the ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team and demonstrate a caring approach towards patients, their relatives/carers and friends. An appreciation of the requirements and challenges of caring for patients in acute mental health care and an understanding of patient recovery needs, including the requirement to provide a supportive environment.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, casual (fully rotational shiftwork) working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 24 months.

Salary

$70,033 to $ 75,114 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025
