Job description:

The Department of Health is looking for a Health Care Assistant, to join the New Norfolk District Hospital team

The Team:

New Norfolk District Hospital (NNDH) provides inpatient services to the local community of Wulawali / New Norfolk and the people of Southern Lutruwita / Tasmania. The 14-bed facility operates with a shared care model between the local Derwent Valley Medical Centre (DVMC) and the Tasmanian Health Service.

NNDH staffing profile enables inpatient care for adults requiring inpatient medical care, nursing care, comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment and care planning, and/or therapy to improve function. 

Services are supported through a range of administration and assistant roles including reception, administration officer, domestic assistants, allied health assistants, hospital assistants, and food services. 

The Role:

In consultation with the Director of Nursing, Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and/or Registered Nurse, the Health Care Assistant provides high quality care and support to NNDH patients and assists with a range of daily living activities that a person would normally do for themselves.

The Health Care Assistant assists patients with personal care needs, as directed by nursing staff.

In the role of Health care Assistant, you will:

  • Under the direction of nursing staff, assist in the activities of daily living for patients, including showering, toileting, grooming and feeding.
  • Assist nursing staff with lifting and repositioning of patients.
  • In accordance with the approved care plan, undertake activity programs to maintain the social, cognitive and psychological skills for patients and undertake the coordination of equipment used for the maintenance and development of these programs.
  • Participate and contribute to staff meetings, ongoing education, quality improvement and the orientation of new staff.

Details of appointment: Health Services Officer, Level 4

Permanent shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $62,486 to $65,119 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.
