We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner with experience in clinical leadership, complex case management, assessment, counselling and/or therapy, and within a youth mental health or relevant/related sector would be ideal.  You would be working within a well-supported, diverse multidisciplinary team to provide developmentally appropriate treatment with young people, and their families/significant others. 

Our Aim:

The Child and Youth Mental Health Service in Tasmania is growing! We are seeking passionate and dedicated clinicians to provide clinical services to children, young people and their families/significant others experiencing mental health concerns. The positions available are within our new teams which are currently being developed as initiatives under the CAMHS reform program (Youth, Youth Forensic, Out of Home Care).

The Nurse Practitioner will have a passion for providing a person-centred approach and working within a multidisciplinary team environment. Within the defined scope of practice, the Nurse Practitioner provides high level clinical leadership in the development, provision, and evaluation of Youth Mental Health services that ensures optimal outcomes to consumers, family/carers, stakeholders, the community and the CYMHS workforce outcomes.

This newly created role will be based with a new Youth Mental Health Hospital in the Home team (Y-HiTH) and will work closely with the senior leadership team in establishing this new service.

The Nurse Practitioner will:

  • Provide specialist mental health assessment and clinical management to young people as part of the Y-HiTH program to promote positive mental health outcomes and hospital avoidance.
  • Work in accordance with shared care principles and within a multidisciplinary treatment team to assist young people to access services and enhance their engagement with internal and external agencies.
  • Take a lead role in the development and implementation of system changes and service improvements in the Youth Mental Health Service
  • Be responsible as a leader, advisor and mentor for other nurses and clinicians to ensure high level clinical excellence within the Youth Mental Health Service and across the broader CYMHS.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: $139,948 per annum. Our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type
  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $500 per annum
  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and endorsed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner

  2. Completed a specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital-based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom

  3. Current Working with Children Registration

  4. Current Driver’s Licence

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
  1. crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  5. serious traffic offences
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
