The Team

The Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest tertiary referral centre, and our clinical pharmacy team comprised of specialist pharmacists, rotational pharmacists and leadership roles forms the largest division of the pharmacy department. We provide comprehensive services across diverse areas, including inpatient care, outpatient clinics, and high-acuity settings.

The Role

The Team Leader – Clinical Pharmacy acts as an expert in the provision of clinical pharmacy services, providing advice and support across a broad range of clinical pharmacy issues to both internal and external stakeholders and participates as a member of the Tasmanian clinical pharmacy management team and provide leadership in the design, operation, and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services, policy review, training and project work as required. The Team Leader – Clinical Pharmacy works independently under the broad supervision and direction of the relevant pharmacy service manager in the coordination of a multidisciplinary pharmacy team, incorporating the allocation of human resources and provision of professional leadership, professional development and direction. The Team Leader – Clinical Pharmacy leads the provision of a high standard pharmacy service to inpatients and outpatients of the Tasmanian Health Service and ensure practices are regularly reviewed and adapted to comply with legal requirements, professional ethics, and Departmental and hospital policies. The Team Leader – Clinical Pharmacy will take a lead role in coordinating extended hours pharmacy services including rostering, planning, development of policy and training materials, performance appraisals and the development of staff competencies where relevant.

You will need

  • Extensive experience and advanced knowledge and skills in a range of activities relevant to the area of practice, including dispensing, patient counselling, clinical pharmacy, manufacturing, and medicines information, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Advanced knowledge of, and experience implementing, the standards, relevant legislation, codes of practice and workplace guidelines and frameworks relevant to the area of practice.
  • Experience in managing resource allocation against competing priorities, including detailed knowledge of pharmaceutical funding processes such as the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and the Tasmanian Medicines Formulary.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, shift worker position, working 32 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$131,122 to $138,984 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025

Salary Packaging 

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible. 

Allowances 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $135,445 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
  • Market allowance - $10,000 pro rata, per annum

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Recognition at either Registrar or Consultant level with the Australian & New Zealand College of Advanced Pharmacy (ANZCAP) in a relevant discipline or relevant postgraduate qualification in pharmacy and/or management

Applicants should note the position features:

  • Participation in an on call and weekend roster, with other pharmacists, for out-of-hours provision of pharmacy services is required.
  • The position may be recruited as Day Work or Shift Work.
  • Occasional intra and interstate travel may be required for all roles.
  • The North-West positions will routinely travel between the Mersey Community Hospital and the North West Regional Hospital
