The Role

The Specialist Medical Practitioner - Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) operates within a supportive and well-structured framework. Broad operational direction is provided by the Area Manager, ADS North, with clinical governance led by the Statewide Specialty Director, ADS.

In this role, you will:

  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and engage with key stakeholders to support the ongoing effectiveness and quality of the public and private sector Pharmacotherapy Program.
  • Exercise a high degree of independent clinical judgement in the delivery of care and completion of core responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to ethical practice in all aspects of your work.
  • Provide specialist medical advice to private prescribers in relation to the safe and appropriate clinical management of complex pharmacotherapy clients.

You will need

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement evidence-based practices, adhere to contemporary clinical standards and policies and the philosophy of harm minimisation in the treatment of drug and alcohol problems especially opioid dependence and co-occurring persistent non cancer pain and/ or mental health comorbidity
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in risk assessment and risk management in relation to the clinical management of clients with alcohol and other drug dependence and other problems.
  • Accredited methadone and buprenorphine prescriber in Tasmania, similar experience interstate, or the ability to quickly achieve accreditation.

Details of appointment

Permanent full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum +
12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year 
  • Fully maintained vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $30,254 per annum, pro rata
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 per annum.
  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
  • other allowances as applicable.

Eligibility:

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
