The Team

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and provides tertiary paediatric services for infants, children and young people across the state. The Paediatric Service provides specialist inpatient and outpatient care for children and young people with a broad range of health needs, working in partnership with families, carers and community services to achieve positive health outcomes.

The Paediatric team is a multidisciplinary service committed to delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based and family-centred care. Our nurses work collaboratively with medical, allied health and other healthcare professionals to plan, implement and evaluate care that meets the individual needs of children and their families.

The Role

The Registered Nurse Grade 3–4 provides safe, quality and clinically appropriate nursing care to infants, children and young people in partnership with patients, families and the multidisciplinary healthcare team. The role is responsible for delivering care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice, relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing care in collaboration with children, young people, families and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide compassionate, family-centred care that supports the health, wellbeing and developmental needs of paediatric patients.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to a safe care environment.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, promoting open communication, collaboration and a positive team culture.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, clinical governance, research and evidence-based practice initiatives within the Paediatric Service.
  • Support education and professional development of patients, families, students and colleagues through teaching, supervision and preceptorship.
  • Participate in activities that promote child safety, safeguarding and the wellbeing of children and young people in line with Department of Health expectations.

You will need

  • Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply nursing principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care in a designated practice area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Board (NMBA) Registered Nurse standards for practice[1].
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills, including written skills and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Knowledge of continuous quality improvement (safety and quality) and the application of evidence based practice in the practice setting.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, full time and part time, shift worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for a period up to twelve (12) months.

Salary

$80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439- $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
