About the role

The Ranger helps manage a vast coastal region in North East Tasmania, stretching from the Chain of Lagoons in the south to Mount William National Park in the North. You will work with a dynamic, dedicated, and highly skilled team responsible for managing the numerous reserves that define this unique landscape.

Reporting to and providing on-ground support to the Ranger-in-Charge, you will undertake a diverse range of responsibilities. These include implementing minor development works and projects, preparing Reserve Activity Assessments, conducting risk assessments, providing information and assistance to visitors, and participating in fire suppression activities.

Based in St Helens, in Tasmania’s North East, you will have the opportunity to work across a spectacular and diverse landscape, from pristine beaches and rugged coastal environments to mountain ranges, extensive forests, and stunning waterfalls. The region is one of Tasmania’s premier holiday destinations, featuring the renowned Bay of Fires and offering an exceptional range of recreational opportunities, including world-class mountain biking, fishing, surfing, bushwalking, and many other nature-based activities.

This is a permanent position working 76 hours (minimum 60.80 hours, by negotiation) per fortnight.

Our ideal candidate

  • Has experience as a Ranger and/or in natural values management.
  • Is a collaborative team player. 
  • Demonstrates experience managing and conducting fire suppression operations.
  • Is a planner and organiser who can develop and implement works programs.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills to educate visitors and engage with a variety of stakeholders.

Position requirements

  • A Workplace Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
