The Team
The Cost Accounting team provides costing services and advice across the Department of Health. The team plays a crucial role in influencing business decisions and outcomes to drive efficiency across the organisation.
The Role
- Provide high level strategic advice and support in relation to the financial implications of contracts, agreements, proposals and initiatives to inform Agency Executives and the Minister.
- Provide technical advice and support in relation to financial modelling to inform Whole of Agency and Department of Health (DoH) contract and agreement negotiation processes, including negotiations in relation to Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBA), compensable services and the National Health Reform Agreement (NHRA).
- Develop and implement financial allocation models and policies to inform budgetary processes and promote financial efficiency and sustainability throughout the Agency.
- Provide high level advice and support in relation to the development, maintenance and improvement of financial systems and processes.
- Lead the Cost Accounting Section in becoming a best practice environment.
You will need
- Demonstrated high level experience in and knowledge of cost/management accounting and government accounting/budgeting requirements, including extensive experience in a cost/management accounting role.

Proven high level strategic, conceptual, analytical, creative skills with the ability to research, investigate and analyse complex issues, model financial outcomes, and make sound judgments using limited information while under pressure, and provide strategic recommendations to senior management within the environment of health and human service provision.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of accounting and budgeting systems and processes with the proven ability to identify areas of improvement and implement changes to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Details of appointment
Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 3 September 2027.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$144,169 to $153,844 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025.

Eligibility

- Relevant tertiary qualifications, together with membership of either CPA Australia or the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
