Period of Appointment

Fixed term for 6 (six) months

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Assist the Ombudsman in the fulfillment of the Ombudsman's responsibilities under the Right to Information Act 2009, the Ombudsman Act 1978 and other legislation as required.
  • Conduct reviews under the Right to Information Act 2009. This will include negotiations with senior managers and officials of public authorities.
  • Provide the Ombudsman with advice and support in the fulfillment of the Ombudsman's responsibilities under the Right to Information Act and collate and review documents and evidence.
  • Prepare written decisions in relation to applications for review of decisions under the Right to Information Act and assist and advise other officers with the preparation of such decisions.
  • Participate in projects, activities and the provision of RTI training, as requested and generally assist in the delivery of education and training in relation to the RTI Act.
  • Provide thorough and timely advice to public authorities and the public regarding the operation of the RTI Act, including the conduct of external review matters.

  1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.

Desirable Requirements

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Registration Status - Employment).
