The Team

The Food Services team at the Department of Health Tasmania works collaboratively to deliver safe, nutritious, and high‑quality meals that support patient care and wellbeing. As a Food Services Officer, team members contribute to daily kitchen and food service operations, including food preparation, plating, distribution, and maintaining strict food safety and hygiene standards. The team values cooperation, reliability, and respect, working closely with clinical staff and colleagues to meet dietary requirements and service timelines while ensuring a supportive and inclusive workplace focused on quality care and continuous improvement.

The Role

As a Food Services Officer, you will play an important role in delivering quality catering services to patients, visitors and staff. Working as part of a supportive team, you will assist with food preparation, food distribution, ware-washing and cleaning activities while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. You will help ensure patients receive the correct meals, follow dietary requirements, and contribute to a safe, efficient and customer-focused food service environment.
 
These positions are located at the Cambridge Production Centre near the Hobart International Airport and its primary tasks are within our tray-line and production teams working 6am - 2pm and/or 8am - 4pm.

You will need

  • Experience or knowledge of food preparation and production, preferably in a large-scale catering or healthcare environment (highly desirable)
  • Understanding of food handling, food hygiene and food safety practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • A positive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Awareness of workplace health and safety requirements and safe work practices.

Details of appointment

Multiple permanent, full time and part time, shift worker positions, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$59,668 to $65,185 pro rata per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2025
