Tasmania | The quiet pursuit of the extraordinary

The Team

The North West Maternity Services (NWMS) is a dynamic, supportive, and agile team working across multiple sites, including the North West Regional Hospital, Mersey Community Hospital, and district hospitals on King Island, Smithton, and the West Coast.

We provide a full spectrum of maternity care—from antenatal services and parenting education through to birth, postnatal care, and extended support into the home as well as a Midwifery Group Practice model of care. Our service includes a 4-bed birthing suite, a 20-bed inpatient ward, and an 8-bed special care nursery.

Our midwives work in a truly collaborative environment alongside allied health professionals, including lactation consultants, social workers, women’s health physiotherapists, diabetes educators, and perinatal mental health specialists. We are passionate about delivering contemporary, woman and family-centred care and continuously improving the experiences and outcomes of women and families in our region.

If you’re looking to join a team that values innovation, flexibility, and connection—this is your opportunity.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to provide clinical leadership in contemporary lactation care within a progressive maternity service.

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver advanced clinical care and specialist lactation consultancy across Women’s and Children’s Services in the North West
  • Support and empower midwifery and nursing teams through education, mentorship, and skill development
  • Build strong partnerships with women, families, and multidisciplinary teams to enhance care outcomes
  • Collaborate across Tasmania to improve access to and continuity of lactation services
  • Lead innovation, quality improvement, and research to strengthen clinical practice and service delivery
  • Develop and implement evidence-based clinical guidelines and protocols
  • Contribute to maintaining Baby Friendly Health Initiative accreditation across our services

This is a role for a passionate and experienced clinician who is ready to make a meaningful impact—both within a close-knit team and across a broader, connected health service.
