The Role

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist provide specialised mental health care to young people within Tasmania’s CYMHS, working across community, extended and inpatient settings. The role includes assessment, treatment, consultation, and supervision of junior staff, while contributing to multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical governance, and service development. It also involves stakeholder collaboration, quality improvement, education, and maintaining high standards aligned with national guidelines and safety requirements and regulations

You will need

Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and youth across community, outreach, and inpatient settings. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, support clinical governance, and build strong partnerships with healthcare providers. Supervise and teach junior staff, contribute to quality improvement and service development, participate in education, and maintain high standards of care, safety, and clinical documentation.

Details of appointment

Permanent part time, day worker (with on call) position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioners 

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 $222,789 - $305,539 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
  • Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
  • Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Eligibility

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty (Psychiatry)
  • Current Working with Children Registration

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Current Driver’s Licence
  • Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent
  • Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Position Features: 

  • Participate in an on-call Roster and undertake call-back work as required
  • Work outside normal hours and weekend work, which may include ward rounds, as required
  • Intrastate travel will be required
  • Staff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordingly.
