About the role

Join a dedicated team of threatened species specialists and play an important role in conserving Tasmania’s unique biodiversity. As a Botanist, you will provide professional and technical expertise to support the conservation and recovery of threatened flora across Tasmania.

This is a rewarding permanent, full-time opportunity (73.50 hours per fortnight or minimum 58.80 hours by negotiation) offering career stability, professional growth and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to conservation outcomes.

In this role, you will:

• Contribute to threatened species conservation projects through field surveys, monitoring programs, site assessments and on-ground recovery activities.
• Support evidence-based conservation outcomes by preparing and reviewing scientific reports, permits, species nominations and listing statements.
• Collect, manage and analyse data to inform conservation planning, decision-making and the management of threatened flora.
• Provide specialist botanical advice and collaborate with scientists, conservation practitioners, policy professionals and decision-makers to support conservation initiatives.
• Help protect and recover some of Tasmania’s most significant and vulnerable plant species through practical, science-based conservation action.

Our ideal candidate has

• Demonstrated knowledge of botany, terrestrial ecology or a related field, including the conservation and management of threatened plant species.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to prepare clear, accurate scientific reports and provide specialist advice to a range of audiences.
• Well-developed organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and apply sound judgement to complex conservation challenges.
• Experience planning and delivering field-based projects, including flora surveys, monitoring programs, data collection and technical reporting.
