The Team

North West Regional Hospital is a key healthcare provider for the Northwest community, delivering a broad range of services with a strong focus on patient‑centred care. Within this environment, the Attendant Services Department plays a vital role in supporting essential patient support, transport, emergency response, and general orderly services within the hospital environment.
 
As part of this team, Attendants works closely with nursing, medical, and allied health staff to assist with patient transfers, lifting and positioning, transport between departments, and maintaining patient equipment such as wheelchairs and crutches.
 
Together, our services focus on delivering excellence in care for our consumers, supporting our workforce, and strengthening the health of the Tasmanian community.

The Role

Working on a casual basis, this role involves rotating shift work year‑round (365 days), including early morning, afternoon shifts and night shifts. The roster spans weekdays, weekends, and public holidays, ensuring essential services are maintained at all times.

With routine supervision provided by the Medical Orderly Services Coordinator, the Attendant role is responsible for:

  • Provide general patient support and orderly services, including safe patient transfers, positioning, lifting, movement of equipment and patient aids, and assistance to nursing and medical staff.
  • Support hospital emergency response and security operations by participating in emergency codes, assisting with security personnel, acting as an Area Warden, and providing directed assistance during Code Blue, Code Red and Code Black responses.
  • Undertake a range of hospital support duties, including medical gas ordering, theatre attendant services, basic plaster assistance, safe handling of deceased persons, and maintaining patient equipment, while contributing to quality, safety, safeguarding and Work Health & Safety processes.

You will need

  • Demonstrated ability to safely assist with patient transfers, positioning, manual/mechanical handling and the use and maintenance of patient aids and equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare and emergency response team, including remaining calm and responsive during emergency situations.
  • Commitment to quality patient care, customer service, workplace safety and safeguarding, with the capacity to undertake duties appropriate to the classification, qualifications and experience of the role.

Details of appointment

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

$70,033 to $75,114 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Health and Human Services award.
