The Team:

Access Mental Health is Tasmania’s statewide 24/7 entry point to public mental health services, providing triage, assessment, and referral. As part of the Department of Health, the team connects consumers, families, carers, health professionals, emergency services and community stakeholders to appropriate mental health care across community, acute and emergency settings.

The Acute Care Stream (ACS) works within a multidisciplinary environment to deliver timely, coordinated and person-centred responses for people experiencing mental health concerns. The team supports access to care through effective triage, assessment and referral processes, ensuring consumers receive the right care at the right time.

Administration staff play a vital role within Access Mental Health by providing high-quality administrative, reception and operational support that enables clinicians to deliver responsive and effective services to the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

  • Provide high-quality administrative support to the Acute Care Stream, including managing referrals, telephone enquiries, appointment coordination, and consumer information systems.
  • Act as a key point of contact for consumers, carers, health professionals and external agencies, ensuring enquiries are managed professionally, confidentially and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records, data entry and reporting processes, while supporting effective communication and coordination across the multidisciplinary Access Mental Health team.

You will need:

  • Ability to work genuinely and collaboratively with people with lived experience and their families and friends, including working confidently and effectively both individually and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within an environment subject to high work pressures and change.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, including a proven ability to undertake duties in a professional manner and with a high level of discretion, together with the ability to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders, while maintaining a high level of stakeholder satisfaction in often complex situations.
  • Knowledge and experience of office administration practices including competent keyboard skills and the ability to undertake administrative duties using office automation systems within a Microsoft Office environment and general knowledge of financial administration processes within the public sector.
