Working Environment
Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) has prison facilities located at Risdon Vale, Hobart, and Launceston. This position is part of our Human Resource and Training unit based at our Risdon Vale site
The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city centre offices, free on-site parking and access to the on-site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). The Training Building has an attached outdoor area where we can enjoy our lunchtimes... weather permitting! We are a short drive to local shops and services, however there is no need to worry about parking when you return as there is plenty (and did we mention it’s free!?).
The Human Resources and Training Unit encompasses recruiting, training, rosters, absence management and general human resources support for the TPS. We are a small team and work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Justice’s central human resources team, and other Outputs.
Period of Appointment
Permanent from as soon as possible.

Hours per fortnight
73.5 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
This is day work position working weekdays.

Benefits
Salary of $86,325 pa – $99,237 pa. Starting salary negotiable within this range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increase within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement.

Duties
- Coordinate the accurate and timely provision of leave across the service including reconciling leave types, durations and accruals, and documentation of approvals and supporting evidence.
- Understand, interpret and apply legislation, industrial awards and agreements and other relevant frameworks to absence and leave management matters.
- Undertake investigations into historical leave matters and make recommendations to the Delegate to rectify these including recovery of costs.
- In consultation with HR Payroll Services, process historical leave applications submitted by staff through Employee Self Service, ensuring rostered shifts and hours align to the TPS rostering system, TimeFiler.
- Provide high-level advice, reports and other correspondence in relation to absence and leave management to a broad range of stakeholders including employees, senior management and reporting bodies.
- Engage with employees in relation to sensitive HR matters such as under/over payment and recovery of costs in a sensitive and confidential manner.
- Undertake case management of assigned reconciliation matters.
- Contribute to the ongoing development, administration and monitoring of databases, systems and policies.
- Provide assistance and support to the wider Workforce Scheduling and Absence Management team and other members of the TPS People and Culture Branch as directed by the Assistant Director People and Culture, (Tasmania Prison Service).
