Job description:

Within this context the Manager of the After-hours Service will provide governance, practice leadership and operational management to the statewide service, ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of service outside of normal business hours. The role will operate within the statutory framework for all client-facing program areas of Services for Children and Families. The After-hours Service staff and its key service partners are positioned across the State, as a result some statewide travel will be required.

This is a Department built entirely for children and young people and their communities.  Our ultimate goal is to work together to ensure that every child and young person in Tasmania is known, safe, well and learning.

Services for Children and Families (SCF) is launching a new After-Hours Service that is responsive to the needs of our children and young people in care by building safety, resolving issues, and preventing escalation outside of business hours. 

This is an exciting opportunity to lead an innovative service that will improve outcomes for children and young people in Tasmania.

The After-hours Service staff and its key service partners are positioned across the State, as a result some statewide travel will be required.

Period of Appointment

Fixed term, Start ASAP for 12 Months

Applicants should be aware that for twelve (12) months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill any subsequent full-time or part-time vacancies in accordance with Employment Direction 1.

Hours per fortnight

76 hours per fortnight

Essential Requirements

  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. crimes of violence
    2. sex related offences
    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty
    5. serious traffic offences
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary actions in previous employment check
  • A tertiary qualification (AQF Level 7 qualification) or higher, approved by the professional body responsible for accrediting programs of study for the profession in Australia and eligibility for membership, or full membership with, the professional association is required.
  • An alternative tertiary qualification (AQF Level 7 qualification) in a discipline considered relevant to the duties; or
  • An Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (AQF Level 5 or 6 qualification) in a discipline considered relevant to the duties

Desirable Requirements

  • Five or more years’ experience in the delivery of human/family services and a high level of expertise in Child Safety
  • Current Driver’s Licence
