Job description:

The position leads major workers compensation reform, policy and legislative initiatives for WorkSafe Tasmania, including the Broad Scheme Review, and provides authoritative high-level strategic advice to the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Team and WorkCover Board, with accountability for supporting the achievement of key strategic and system-wide outcomes and continuous improvement in the Tasmanian workers compensation scheme.

Period of Appointment

Fixed term for 3 (three) years

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Lead and manage complex, high‑impact strategic reform, policy and legislative initiatives relating to the workers compensation scheme in Tasmania, including the Broad Scheme Review, ensuring effective governance, senior stakeholder engagement, policy analysis and delivery of evidence‑based recommendations
  • Provide high level authoritative strategic advice to the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Team, WorkCover Board and relevant committees.
  • Develop and prepare high level documentation including options papers, Cabinet and Ministerial briefings, reports, project plans, policy documents and submissions to support Government decision-making.
  • Undertake high level consultation and negotiation with government agencies, other jurisdictions, industry stakeholders and the community to support complex policy development and reform.
  • Analyse complex and emerging issues and identify opportunities to improve the performance, sustainability and long-term effectiveness of the workers compensation scheme.
  • Represent WorkSafe Tasmania as a senior strategic adviser on State and national committees, working groups and forums relating to workers compensation policy, legislation and scheme reform
  • Perform other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification.

Desirable Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline
  • Driver’s licence, or an ability to travel between work locations across the state.
