Job description:

This position contributes to the efficient operation of the Energy Ombudsman jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman and Health Complaints Commissioner by facilitating the resolution of complaints and undertaking investigations under the Energy Ombudsman Act 1998. The role is also responsible for developing and implementing relevant external communication and engagement including educational material and programs related to energy issues and the role of the Energy Ombudsman

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties

  • Assess, enquire into and investigate complaints under the Energy Ombudsman Act 1998 and other legislation as may be required.
  • Negotiate appropriate solutions and strategies to resolve complaints and where necessary formulate recommendations for improved procedures and practices, including ways to address systemic issues.
  • Undertake research, reporting, assist with policy development and provide advice on matters relating to energy issues.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with energy entities, interested parties and relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist in enhancing the public profile of the Energy Ombudsman by planning, developing and facilitating outreach and engagement programs.
  • Review and update website content including drafting factsheets, case summaries and relevant communication materials.
  • Produce and present material regarding energy issues relevant to the community, public sector organisations and energy entities.
  • Any reasonable duties as directed by management.

Desirable requirements

  • Experience in community engagement and outreach.
  • Experience working in complaints management, compliance or regulation.
  • Qualifications in communications, law, education, public administration, investigations, dispute resolution or other related discipline.
  • Current driver’s licence.

  1. Pre-employment (National Police Record) checks for: Arson and fire setting, violent crimes and crimes against the person, sex-related offences, drug and alcohol related offences, crimes involving dishonesty, deception and/or conspiracy, making false declarations, malicious damage and destruction to property, serious traffic offences, crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice, Executive or the Legislative Power.
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.
  3. Identification check.
