We currently have an ongoing vacancy for a Manager, Performance Audit, and this process may also be used to fill upcoming fixed term roles.
In this role you’ll be leading small teams conducting performance audits on the Auditor-General’s behalf. From day-to-day you could find yourself carrying out fieldwork in different parts of the State, meeting with people from a wide range of State entities, from frontline public servants to politicians, or briefing parliamentary committees. It’s a challenging role full of variety that gives you a unique view of the public sector in Tasmania.

Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Key Duties
- Manages complex audits and/or undertakes components of projects within cost, time and quality parameters.
- Plans audits and develops audit criteria.
- Utilises information technology and computer systems to complete audit work, analyse data and prepare reports.
- Maintains complex working papers (in accordance with Office policy and relevant standards) to record evidence of audit work.
- Identifies and researches potential complex audit issues and risks while developing options and recommendations for effective solutions to senior management.
- Applies contemporary knowledge of public sector operations, structures and responsibilities in audit evaluation and research methodologies to produce effective performance audits.
- Leads and maintains a regular and professional relationships with personnel at all levels in organisations under review.
- Prepares draft reports on the outcomes of audits for discussion with clients and for internal review prior to tabling in Parliament. Manages the process of tabling reports including preparing and making briefings and presentations for assigned complex audits.
- Provides supervision, guidance, training and performance feedback to assigned staff and the management of experts when required.
- Contributes to team cohesiveness and maintains professional and collaborative relationships within the Office.
Performance is measured against Key Performance Indicators that are developed and agreed to for each role in the Office and documented in annual Performance Plans.
Essential Qualifications and Requirements
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this position is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction checks in the following; Arson and fire setting; Violent crimes and crimes against the person; Sex-related offences; Drug and alcohol related offences; Crimes involving dishonesty; Crimes involving deception; Making false declarations; Malicious damage and destruction to property; Serious traffic offences; Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice; Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power; Crimes involving Conspiracy.
- Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
- Identification check.
Desirable Requirements
- A tertiary qualification at degree level in a relevant discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Either three years supervised/mentored practical experience or five years unsupervised practical experience in the relevant discipline.
- Driver’s Licence.
