
About the role
The Ranger will assist the Ranger-in-Charge with managing field centre operations and resources.
As a member of a small, close-knit, and high-functioning team and manager of three direct reports, you will be responsible for supervising staff, contractors, and volunteer groups. These groups may include walking clubs, historical hut groups, and commercial tourism companies. You will liaise with the caving community and issue grants of authority for access.
You will contribute to the development and implementation of works programs and business plans, manage visitor facilities, and interact with visitors.
Based at the Great Western Tiers Field Centre, you will enjoy working in one of the most unspoilt alpine areas in the world, and across unique karst environments. This role will require conducting field expeditions including, overnight camping and track work in the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, a stunning landscape of highland lakes, towering dolerite peaks, elegant pencil pine forests, and unique alpine vegetation.

Hours per fortnight
76.0 hours per fortnight (minimum 60.8 hours, by negotiation).
Period of appointment
2 years or until the return of the substantive occupant, whichever is sooner.
Essential requirements
- A Workplace Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in reserve management or equivalent experience.
To access Band 4 Range 2 salary levels the following qualification is essential:
- Diploma in Conservation and Land Management or other qualifications deemed equivalent.
Desirable requirements
- Diploma in Conservation and Land Management or other qualifications deemed equivalent.
- A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.
