Job description:
The purpose of the role is to provide specialist advice and support to Department staff and other stakeholders engaged in the Department’s fire management programme. Carry out fire management and suppression activities.
About the role
The Fire Management Officer will lead a team of experienced and professional fire practitioners in developing and delivering fire response and fuel reduction programs across the Southern Region of Tasmania’s Parks and Wildlife Service reserve estate.
The reserve estate comprises high conservation and heritage values, a world class reserve system and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage area, including the Iconic Southwest National Park, Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park, and Mount Field National Park, to name just a few. The work will involve a broad range of reserves across urban, peri-urban, and remote settings, and the successful candidate will bring a broad suite of fire and protected area management experience to this role.

Hours per fortnight
73.50 hours per fortnight (minimum 58.80 hours, by negotiation).
Period of appointment
2 years.
Desirable requirements
- A nationally accredited Certificate IV or Diploma in Public Safety would be an advantage.
- An ability to pass the PWS fire fighter fitness assessment at the ‘Moderate’ level.
- Tasmanian Driver’s Licence Class C or equivalent.
