Job description:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Palliative Care provides clinical leadership and direction in planning, implementing, and evaluating the provision of palliative care to effectively support the delivery of an acute and community palliative care services provided by the Department.

The Team

Based in the community in Launceston, you will join a friendly and motivated multidisciplinary team comprising a small core team of specialists, registrars, nursing and allied health staff. We provide palliative care services across Northern Tasmania extending from the Meander Valley, to the Bass Strait and the Bay of Fires and to historic central Tasmania. The service works closely with other community service providers and partner organisations to support the delivery of high-quality palliative care and achieve positive outcomes for the communities of northern Tasmania. 

The Role

  • Provide expert clinical consultancy, comprehensive assessment, symptom management and end-of-life planning for patients with life-limiting illness across inpatient and community settings in the North region.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and contribute to evidence-based palliative care practice within Hospitals North
  • Support, educate, and mentor nursing staff to strengthen palliative care capability across the broader team
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, GPs, and community services to ensure coordinated, person-centred care planning 

You will need

  • The capacity to work safely, autonomously and efficiently across complex environments and a variety of care settings.
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative and provide timely response to changing clinical needs
  • Strong collaborate skills, with the ability to work effectively within the multidisciplinary team and support excellent communication across a range of service providers.

Details of appointment

  • Permanent, part time, day worker position, working up to 56 hours per fortnight, commencing from the 29 June 2026. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$118,297 to $125,543 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria 

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

  • Current Driver’s Licence

  • Holds, or is working towards, relevant postgraduate tertiary qualifications
