
The Team: BreastScreen Tasmania is the highest performing Breast Screen Service in Australia, noted for high participation in the program high cancer detection and low recall rates. BreastScreen Tasmania has 5 fixed screening sites around the state and services rural and remote regions with a mobile program. The Service is due to open a new facility in Hobart which will house a screening and assessment clinic, co-locating with Tasmania's first public diagnostic breast clinic.
The Role:
The role of the Designated Radiologist is to oversee the provision of high-quality breast cancer screening and assessment services relating to radiology in the Service and/or SCU in accordance with the BreastScreen Australia National Accreditation Standards (NAS), as well as implementing quality improvement strategies for radiologists/readers as detailed in the Service Quality Improvement (QI) Plan. This requires the Designated Radiologist to work closely with the Designated Radiographer and the Clinical Director/State Manager Clinical Services to deal with issues of quality. Close liaison with the Designated Pathologist, Designated Surgeon and Medical Physicist is also required.
Qualification and experience:
In addition to the prerequisite qualifications and registration, the Designated Radiologist position requires:
• extensive experience in screening mammography, diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound and image-guided interventional procedures of the breast.
• excellent knowledge of breast imaging technical quality assurance.
• well developed knowledge of the BreastScreen Australia Program and the NAS.
The responsibilities of the Designated Radiologist include, but are not limited to:
• Orientation and supervision of training of radiologists new to the Service.
• Direct supervision of registrars in training.
• Undertaking quarterly assessment of radiologists’ performance in screening and assessment and providing feedback of this assessment to individual radiologists. As a minimum, this includes analysis of the Service and/or SCU’s and the individual radiologist’s recall rates, cancer detection rates, missed cancer detection rates and interval cancers. Assessment performance, such as pre-operative diagnosis of breast cancers and adequacy of percutaneous biopsies, will also be included. This individualised, identifiable information is confidential to the Designated Radiologist, the individual radiologist, the Clinical Director/Program Manager and the data manager.
• Ensuring regular radiology/pathology/surgery review of biopsies is undertaken.
• Encouraging radiologists to participate in continuing education programs. This will include, but not limited to, multidisciplinary review meetings in the Service.
• Undertaking quarterly formal reviews of mammographic quality and equipment performance with the Designated Radiographer. Although the Designated Radiographer is responsible for the performance of technical quality assurance, the Designated Radiologist needs to be aware of the standards and testing procedures for mammographic and ultrasound equipment and to be certain
that these are being met. The Designated Radiologist also needs to communicate with the Designated Radiographer regarding radiation dose measurements.
• The Designated Radiologist will assist in the development and implementation of documented quality assurance protocols on:
- Radiation dose measurement
- Equipment
- Radiation protection
- Mammogram and ultrasound quality evaluation.
• Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and procedures for screening and assessment in collaboration with the Clinical Director/State Manager Clinical Services and other designated personnel.
• Contribute to the selection and replacement of appropriate breast imaging equipment if required.

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefits, calculated on the salaried incremental point will be applied
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
- 35% allowance in lieu of private practice schemes
- Management Allowance to be negotiated and applied to this role
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

- A Medical Practitioner who has had at least five years post graduate experience in the practice of medicine, holds a senior qualification appropriate to the speciality concerned and has practical experience in that speciality
