Job description:

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake work within the Forensic Mental Health Service to deliver specialist mental health assessment and consultation to Magistrates, Solicitors, Police, and Community Corrections staff.

Please note this position is also being advertised as an Allied Health Professional -Court Liaison Officer (600610) and only one position will be filled on merit. Please note this position is eligible for a Multi-Disciplinary Allowance.

The Team:

Community Forensic Mental Health is seeking expressions of interest from employees interested in working as a Court Liaison Officer across the Burnie and Devonport Magistrates courts.

This is an excellent opportunity to undertake work within the Forensic Mental Health Service to deliver specialist mental health assessment and consultation to Magistrates, Solicitors, Police, and Community Corrections staff.

The successful applicant can be based out of the CFMHS Launceston office however travel will be required to attend court in Burnie and Devonport in person as required.

The Role:

  • Provide specialist clinical mental health assessment to those persons identified within the Justice system as having or who may have a mental health problem.
  • Provide high-level written reports to the Courts.
  • Liaise with other government and non-government agencies to formulate appropriate interventions that are acceptable to the Court and the client.
  • Ensure referral and relevant information is relayed promptly to Agencies involved with ongoing care of people with mental health problems involved with the criminal justice system.

You will need:

  • Demonstrated specialist knowledge and understanding of mental health disorders and the needs of individuals experiencing psychological and emotional problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience working in a forensic setting or ability to acquire the same and obtain certification as a Mental Health Officer under the Mental Health Act and other current statutory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise and manage workload, set priorities and work without close supervision as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for a period of 12 months.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Classification: 

Salary $109,767 - $115,813 per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

Allowances:

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Correctional Allowances:

  • 6.5% Correctional Allowance

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, a hospital-based training program that resulted in previous registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse registration authority within Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom

  • Current Driver’s Licence
