About the role:
As a Senior Applications Specialist, you will lead the delivery of applications administration, support and maintenance services to ensure the stability, security and effective operation of Homes Tasmania’s applications, digital tools and technologies. You will oversee a diverse application environment that includes business‑critical systems, online platforms, and the organisation’s digital experience and content management environments.
You’ll provide direction to application specialists and coordinate key application lifecycle activities, including system enhancements, integrations, upgrades, release management and performance monitoring. You will also guide the governance and optimisation of digital experience and content management platforms that support Homes Tasmania’s websites, intranet and related digital channels, ensuring all environments comply with security frameworks, operational policies and agreed service standards.
Working closely with business units, external stakeholders, vendors and service providers, you will help ensure service levels, operational requirements and quality expectations are consistently met. You’ll contribute strategic advice to maintain a fit‑for‑purpose digital operating environment and support the ongoing strengthening of Homes Tasmania’s digital capability.
In this role, you will also support the creation of an inclusive, collaborative and adaptable team culture across ITMS. By working constructively with other ITMS teams, you will help build a cohesive business unit that enables Homes Tasmania to meet its strategic and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead application administration and improvement for assigned systems, providing Level 2 support, coordinating releases and upgrades, managing integrations, communicating with stakeholders, and monitoring application performance.
- Own the DXP/CMS platforms: administer configuration and roles, manage content and publishing workflows, coordinate deployments, ensure availability and performance, and drive secure integration with adjacent systems.
- Oversee compliance with security frameworks and policies, including cybersecurity practices across all applications.
- Develop and maintain documentation (processes, procedures, online content) and deliver workflow/process‑based training.
- Coordinate delivery of initiatives involving or impacting applications, prepare reports/briefings/options, and contribute to strategies for the applications operating environment.
- Manage vendor/supplier services and agreements, ensuring service levels and contractual obligations are met.
- Cultivate strong relationships across Homes Tasmania, Tasmanian Government partners, and service providers; provide backup to the Manager, Applications Services; and support broader ITMS priorities and projects.
- Stay current with industry developments and contribute to a healthy, safe, inclusive, and child‑safe culture.
What We’re Looking For — Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience supporting, administering, maintaining and monitoring bespoke software applications, including coordinating updates, capturing and analysing logs, conducting technical investigations and managing integrations.
- Proven experience in API and related integration troubleshooting – able to follow a call from client to backend, read and interpret payloads and headers, verify auth tokens, compare expected vs actual schemas, correlate logs across systems, and using tools or scripts to reproduce, isolate and test issues when troubleshooting.
- Proven expertise with online DXP/CMS platforms covering administration, governance, templating/components, content workflows, accessibility, security, analytics, and optimisation.
- Strong security mindset with practical experience applying security frameworks and protocols to enterprise applications (including web and content platforms).
- Strategic problem‑solver able to influence planning and decision‑making for digital and application services and contribute to a fit‑for‑purpose operating environment.
- Highly developed communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to liaise, negotiate and solve problems with diverse stakeholders, and to produce performance reports, trend analysis, specifications, training material and online content.
- Leadership and autonomy—capable of working independently, guiding application specialists, and coordinating cross‑team stakeholders to deliver timely, high‑quality outcomes.
