
The Team:
The Population Screening and Cancer Prevention (PSCP) unit is the Tasmanian Government’s cancer screening authority and the leading source of information on cancer screening and prevention in Tasmania.
As part of the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), PSCP is responsible for:
- Oversight of the local delivery of the Diagnostic Breast Imaging (DBI) service, a new THS pathway providing public diagnostic imaging services to the Tasmanian community.
- Managing and participating in three national cancer screening programs:
- BreastScreen Australia via BreastScreen Tasmania clinics and mobile screening units
- National Bowel Cancer Screening Program via the Tasmanian Bowel Cancer Prevention Program
- National Cervical Screening Program via the Tasmanian Cervical Cancer Prevention Program
PSCP has an established and collaborative working relationship with the Department of Medical Imaging at the Royal Hobart Hospital, providing opportunities for cross-service engagement.
The Role:
In the role of Staff Specialist (Radiology) you will:
- Deliver specialist in-patient and out-patient radiology services.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic imaging, including breast imaging procedures.
- Provide clinical advice and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervise and mentor medical trainees and students.
- Participate in quality assurance, research, and continuous improvement activities.
You will need:
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality diagnostic radiology services.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
- Knowledge of quality improvement principles and patient safety standards.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to a team focused on cancer prevention and early detection.

Details of appointment:
Permanent part time, day worker position, working 38 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 AUD 216,300 - 310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range AUD 300,216 - 310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to AUD 9,010 and AUD 2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of AUD 28,786 per annum, pro rata
- Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata.
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

- Competency in breast imaging including biopsy and localisation procedures
