Job description:

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Pathology South team provides phlebotomy and specimen collection services in the outpatient setting at Wellington Clinic and satellite collection centres at Glenorchy, Kingston and Rosny. The service also supports inpatients areas at the RHH. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

In accordance with conventional practices, methods and standards, the Phlebotomy Technician provides phlebotomy and specimen collection services to inpatient and outpatient clients.  The role works across the hospital and outpatient clinic.  This is a shiftwork position with the service operating Monday-Friday 0800-1700 and 0800-1300 on weekends and public holidays.    

You will need:

  1. Well-developed phlebotomy skills including experience in evacuated tube system use and the demonstrated ability to collect other specimens whilst observing principles of standard precautions and working in accordance with policy and procedural requirements.
  2. Demonstrated organisational and prioritisation skills including the ability to apply a level of independent judgement whilst working in an environment subject to work pressure and change. 
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and reliably both as an individual and a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, part time, shift worker (fully rotational) position, working 52 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until December 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,811 to $79,779 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

  • A Certificate III, or equivalent Diploma, from a registered tertiary institution, or an equivalent qualification, appropriate to the nature of the work.
