Job description:

The Paediatric Unit (Wombat Ward) is a 34-bed, modern facility providing inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory care for infants, children, and adolescents aged 0–18 years in Northern Tasmania.

The Team: 

The Paediatric Unit (Wombat Ward) is a 34-bed, modern facility providing inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory care for infants, children, and adolescents aged 0–18 years in Northern Tasmania.

Located within Women’s and Children’s Services, the unit works closely with the Paediatric Outpatient Department in a multidisciplinary environment that supports learning, professional development, and high-quality patient care.

Staff collaborate with paediatricians, nursing and medical teams, and a broad allied health network to deliver comprehensive care to children with acute, chronic, and complex health needs.

The Role:

  • Clinical Care: Deliver comprehensive paediatric nursing care, including clinical observations, growth and development assessment, medication administration, IV management, and response to changing clinical conditions.
  • Family-Centred Support: Provide education, reassurance, and emotional support to children and their families.
  • Care Coordination: Work collaboratively with paediatricians, allied health, and community providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Documentation & Communication: Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and communicate effectively within the healthcare team.
  • Patient Advocacy: Promote and protect the rights, safety, and wellbeing of all children accessing our service
  • Education & Mentorship: Support student and graduate nurses, and engage in ongoing professional learning and development.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, part time, shift worker position, working up to 64 hours per fortnight, commencing from 2 February 2026 until 7 February 2027. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $80,524 to $109,175 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $102,439 - $109,175 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Salary Packaging:

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria 

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Working with Children Registration
