Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Cardiothoracic Surgical Unit within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for all cardiothoracic surgery in Tasmania. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Role:

The Registered Nurse Clinical Coach – Main Operating Theatres is responsible for supporting the ongoing clinical development, competence, and confidence of nursing staff within the perioperative environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing direct clinical coaching and supervision to support safe practice and skill consolidation in complex surgical environments.

  • Assessing and documenting clinical competence in accordance with ACORN standards, organisational policy, and professional registration requirements.

  • Identifying individual and team learning needs and collaborating with education and management teams to design responsive learning plans.

  • Promoting a culture of reflective practice, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.

  • Acting as a role model for professional behaviour, teamwork, and communication within the multidisciplinary perioperative team.

  • Supporting orientation and transition programs to ensure effective onboarding and retention of staff.

The Clinical Coach plays a pivotal role in fostering a skilled, adaptable, and resilient perioperative workforce that delivers exceptional outcomes for patients and the organisation.
