
About Us
The Communicable Disease Prevention Unit (CDPU) is a multidisciplinary unit comprising three divisions: Immunisation, Health Intelligence, and Response. The CDPU holds delegated statutory responsibilities under the Public Health Act 1997, contributing to the protection and promotion of public health across Tasmania.
Within CDPU, the Tasmanian Infection Prevention and Control Unit (TIPCU) provides expert, evidence-based advice and leadership in infection prevention and control. TIPCU supports health professionals, consumers, and patients through:
- A robust statewide healthcare-associated infection (HAI) surveillance program
- Review of infection prevention and control documents for private hospitals, private day procedure units, private ambulance services, and other establishments under the Health Service Establishment Act 2006, and the Health Service Establishments Regulations 2021.
- Development and dissemination of IPC resources, education, and training
- Representation of Tasmania on national infection prevention and control committees and working groups
The Opportunity
- We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant – Infection Prevention and Control to join our team. This pivotal role provides clinical leadership in infection prevention and control both locally and nationally and oversees the administration of Tasmania’s statewide HAI surveillance program.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, part time, day worker position, working 60.8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $114,851 to $121,886 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

- Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
