Join our dedicated Emergency Medicine team as a Staff Specialist and make a real difference in patient care across our northern hospitals network. What We're Looking For
- Fellowship of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent
- Current registration with AHPRA or eligible for registration
- 4+ years of experience as an Emergency Staff Specialist
- Demonstrated senior level experience, special interest or higher training in key subspeciality areas such as Research, Geriatrics, Mental Health, Paediatrics, Trauma or Toxicology.

- Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients of all ages and backgrounds
- Lead clinical decision-making in high-pressure situations
- Mentor junior medical staff and students and contribute to their professional development
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical governance activities
- Support emergency department growth and development through expertise in key special interest areas
Where you’ll Work
- 43-bed unit with over 45,000 annual presentations and a 30% admission rate
- Referral centre for Northern Tasmania
- High-acuity, broad-spectrum caseload—including a significant paediatric component—supported by all major specialties and an ICU with ECMO capability
- Consultants provide direct clinical supervision from 8am until midnight, seven days a week with an on-call service outside these hours.
- A FACEM group with expertise in ultrasound, paediatrics, retrieval, international EM, medical education and leadership. 
- ACEM accreditation for 24 months of Emergency Registrar Training, including TS4 (late phase training).

Details of appointment:
Permanent, full time and part time position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 5 January 2026.
*notwithstanding hours and start date to be negotiated with the successful applicant
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 
- The remuneration package for this position, based on classification as a Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 9, starts at $484,000 per annum, with potential for higher earnings dependant on seniority, in accordance with the current Specialist Medical Practitioner Award (Tasmania)
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
- Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata 
- Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
- Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum, pro rata 
- Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
- A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
- Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $13.95 per week per person, or $25.95 for a family.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as
- Holds specialist registration
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
- Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
