Job description:

The Registered Nurse - Pathology: • Strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe, quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals. • Provides an efficient, competent and professional specimen collection service within the Pathology Department of the Launceston General Hospital

The Team:

Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides Pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public Pathology service operating in North Tasmania. NTPS aims to deliver a high-quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, providing patients with no out of pocket expenses for Medicare eligible tests. The team at NTPS comprises a large team involving multi-disciplinary scientists, technicians, non-technical staff, nursing staff (specimen collection team) and Pathologists.

The Role:

Primary role will be to undertake Blood and specimen collection services at the Launceston General hospital.

You will need:

  • Perform venepuncture and capillary collections on adults, children and infants for blood and blood culture testing, as well as collect other required specimens including urine and swabs.
  • Working in the outpatient department, ward phlebotomy collection and domiciliary blood collection service as required. Understanding and adhering to relevant legislation, policy and procedure and the requirements of the ISO 15189 Quality System in Pathology.
  • Provide nursing care as appropriate ensuring the organisations quality and safety standards are upheld, Work Health and Safety processes are met, and refer to Medical Officers/ Medical Practitioners where necessary.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing from 29 September 2025 for approximately 12 months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse
