Job description:

As a member of the Health Improvement Unit, promote a population health approach to improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequities through the development of policy and strategic frameworks, research, education and training, project development and evaluation.

The Team: 

Public Health Services in the Tasmanian Department of Health works with government and communities to protect and promote good health and prevent disease and injury.

  • Note. This is a state-wide position and can be based in Hobart, Launceston or Burnie.

The Role:

As a member of the Health Improvement Unit, promote a population health approach to improving health and wellbeing and reducing health inequities through the development of policy and strategic frameworks, research, education and training, project development and evaluation.

Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of community nutrition initiatives, policies and programs to optimise the health and wellbeing of the Tasmanian population. Work closely with other government agencies, non-government agencies and other stakeholders to identify and develop strategies to progress state and national priorities related to community nutrition.

You will need to:

  • Assess the nutritional needs of the population, especially those of nutritionally vulnerable groups.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of evidence informed community nutrition programs and services through collaboration, research, planning and evaluation across agency, government, and community sectors.
  • Provide effective nutrition training, support and advice to other health and community workers.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term part time, day worker position, working 45.6 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 28 February 2026.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $110,425 to $121,907 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2022.

Allowances: 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study accredited by Dietitians Australia or overseas qualified dietitians will be required to complete Dietetic Skill Recognition (DSR) through Dietitians Australia
  • Eligible for full membership with Dietitian Australia
  • Eligible to join the Accredited Practising Dietitian Program 
  • Or where regulatory requirements exist, NDIS Q&S Commission Provider Registration Requirements
  • Full member of Dietitian Australia

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
