Who are we?
Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The RHH is the major paediatric and neonatal referral service, as well as the major university teaching hospital for Tasmania. The RHH has a 32 bed paediatric and adolescent wards, including 4 short-stay unit and 4 high dependency unit. It also has a 12 bed Neonatal and Paediatric ICU (NPICU) and is co-located with a 16 bed Special Care Nursery. The units are staffed 24 hours a day by registrars and residents with in-house consultant cover during working hours and on call overnight.
The Paediatrics department runs a busy, active, and diverse outpatient department, with various subspecialists and allied health team members.
The Department of Women’s, Adolescent and Children’s Services is a supportive, coherent, and highly functioning team which is motivated to meet the service needs of our community.

The Role
Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to paediatric and adolescent patients and their families in an inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory setting.
Promote and participate in research in one of the research focus areas of the Tasmania School of Medicine and Department of Paediatrics.
Actively pursue improved outcomes for paediatric and adolescent patients by participating in:
- Post graduate teaching.
- Audit and Evaluation.

Salary
Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.
Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.
- Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,786 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
- Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 pro rata per annum.
- Relocation allowance.
- On call allowance % of Base Salary.
- All other allowances as per current Award.
- And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Other Benefits:
- You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Details of Appointment
Fixed term, part-time, day work (with on-call), working 45.6 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2026.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.

Essential Requirements
- Holds specialist registration; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
- Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
- Conviction checks in the following areas:
