The Team:
Smithton District Hospital (SDH) is small sized sub-acute public hospital located in Smithton Tasmania. It services the whole Circular Head region with a catchment population of 8000 people.
The Hospital has 12 subacute beds accommodating general medicine, post-acute, palliative and end of life care. We have a 3 bay Emergency First Response unit staffed by nurses and General Practitioners (Rural Medical Practitioners) who are contracted to provide on call medical services. No surgery is performed at this hospital.
SDH offer outpatient services including low-risk chemotherapy and supportive treatments for cancer patients, blood products and iron transfusions for acute and chronic conditions.
The Role:
In accordance with Agency policy and legal requirements, the Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing (RUSON) works within their respective workplace guidelines to provide nursing care as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN) and within the direction and supervision of the RN or Enrolled Nurse (EN), in accordance with the nursing care plan.
The activities for each role are listed in the workplace guidelines located within the RUSON Employment Guideline available on the SDMS. The activities may vary slightly depending on the area in which the RUSON works.
You will need
- To be an undergraduate of Diploma or Bachelor of Nursing who has completed their first placement.
- A current first aid certificate
- The ability to follow direction & work as part of a close-knit team to provide inpatient care.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, casual, position working as and when required, commencing as soon as possible for approximately 12 months.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $64,985 to $71,008 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

An undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing student who has successfully completed their first clinical practice placement.

An undergraduate Diploma of Nursing student who has completed their first clinical practice placement.
