Job description:

The Quality and Safety team at the Department of Health Tasmania is a dedicated group of professionals committed to enhancing clinical governance, patient safety, and continuous improvement across the state's health system.

This position is based in Hobart, Tasmania.

The Team:

The Quality and Safety team at the Department of Health Tasmania is a dedicated group of professionals committed to enhancing clinical governance, patient safety, and continuous improvement across the state's health system. Working under the leadership of the Executive Director, the team collaborates with clinicians, executives, and service providers to ensure high standards of care through robust quality frameworks, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

This multidisciplinary team plays a pivotal role in:

  • Driving statewide quality improvement initiatives
  • Supporting accreditation and clinical audit processes
  • Promoting a culture of safety, learning, and accountability
  • Advising on policy, standards, and best practice in healthcare delivery

Together, they contribute to the Department’s mission to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of all Tasmanians.

The Role:

The Executive Director, Quality and Safety leads strategic initiatives to enhance clinical governance, patient safety, and service quality across Tasmania’s public health system. Reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Clinical Quality, Regulation and Accreditation, this role oversees statewide frameworks for quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance. This leadership role is central to ensuring Tasmanians receive safe, high-quality, and person-centred care.

You will need to:

  • Driving continuous improvement in healthcare safety and outcomes
  • Leading accreditation, audit, and clinical governance programs
  • Collaborating with executive leaders, clinicians, and stakeholders
  • Promoting a culture of accountability, learning, and excellence

Details of appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $170,409 to $188,400 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Eligibility:

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Relevant post graduate qualifications.
  • Clinical registration and/or health service management experience.
  • Extensive experience managing and leading a complex team.
  • Extensive experience and / or certification in Quality Improvement and/ or Accreditation.
  • Professional qualifications and experience relevant to industry quality and safety standards.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
