Job description:

The Department of Health is seeking an experienced leader for the role of General Manager - Legal Services.

The General Manager - Legal Services is a key specialist senior manager for the Department of Health (DoH), responsible for the provision of a high-level consultancy and advisory service on a range of complex and sensitive legal services matters. There is a frequent requirement for consultation with and the provision of strategic advice to senior management and officers both within the DoH and across Government Agencies and Offices.

The Role

A specialist senior management role whose primary objectives and responsibilities are to provide strategic leadership, direction and oversight of Legal Services, and delivery of their functions to the DoH. This includes specialist high level advice and management of the DoH legislative program; management of legal issues and advice in conjunction with the Office of the Solicitor-General, Office of the Crown Solicitor and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, including medico-legal matters; specialist contract and procurement legal services; and certain governance and accountability obligations such as delegations, Right to Information requests and insurable risks.


Appointment Details

The position is offered as a 3 year contract with an attractive remuneration package, including a salary range between $156,075 and $171,573 p.a. plus 11.5% superannuation.

Eligibility

Applicants should note the following criteria are essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law
  • Extensive experience in Government Agency legal services and the operations of government in relevant areas

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Appropriate post graduate qualification in law, management or public policy
