Mental Health Short Stay Unit
The Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU) is a 6-bedded unit providing tailored care to mental health consumers, usually admitted from the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Emergency Department, requiring brief admission only.
Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIU), Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)
The MHIU provides acute inpatient treatment for who require specialist general adult mental health care in a safe and secure environment. The 33-bed facility, which is physically situated across two floors of K block at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH), consists of 3 units: K2W (Open Unit), K3W (Closed Unit) and K3W HDU (High Dependency Unit).
Multidisciplinary teams led by consultant psychiatrists provide care for consumers in the MHIU. There are multiple key stakeholders external to SMHS involved in discharge planning from the MHIU. Northside Mental Health Unit, Launceston General Hospital (LGH)
The Northside Mental Health Unit is an acute inpatient mental health service located at the Launceston General Hospital. The service is for individuals who require specialist mental health care in a safe and supportive environment.
The unit includes two care areas: the Low Care Unit (LCU) and the High Care Unit (HCU). Care is provided by a multidisciplinary treating team with specialist skills: medical staff including psychiatric consultants, registrars, medical officers, nursing staff, health care assistant, and allied health professionals.

Spencer Clinic, North West Regional Hospital (NWRH)
The Spencer Clinic is a mental health inpatient unit located at the North West Regional Hospital in Burnie, providing specialist mental health care for adults up to age 65.
The Role:
The Career Medical Officer is expected to work with a high level of individual responsibility but is accountable to the Head of Department for all aspects of performance. Direction and supervision are provided by consultant staff, as well as the Head of the Department.
The occupant of this role is responsible for:
- Adherence to professional protocols, policies, clinical pathways and standards.
- Demonstrating sound judgement and competence with skills and knowledge when undertaking tasks.
- The level and quality of medical care provided.

Details of appointment:
Multiple Permanent full time, day worker positions, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Salary:
Career Medical Officer Level 1 - 7, $128,750 - $183,340 per annum, + 11.5% superannuation + access to salary packaging.
- Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
