
The Team:
The Scrub/Scout Nursing team works as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide safe, high quality, care to patients/clients during the intraoperative phase of their elective and emergency surgical procedures. The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is the largest public hospital in the state and operates at a level 6 capability and provides acute inpatient and outpatient surgical services for the Tasmania Health Service Hospitals South (THS Hospitals South) and is the tertiary referral for complex patients from THS Hospitals North and THS Hospitals Northwest. The RHH provides elective and emergency surgical services for the THS Hospitals South.
The RHH is the tertiary referral centre for all surgical procedures with the exception of transplant surgery, complex paediatric surgery, paediatric cardiac surgery, major paediatric orthopaedic surgery and cochlear implant surgery.
The Role:
The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) is an experienced nurse who, within the defined area of practice:
- Works in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and other senior staff, to ensure the efficient and effective provision of care based on best practice principles within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework.
- Assists the NUM with the planning and management of staff and resources and provides operational leadership through the coordination of the day-to-day patient care activities, including patient flow.
- Is required to have at least 3 years' experience as a scrub scout nurse in General Surgery and Acute operating theatres.
- Is responsible for the support and development of all scrub scout staff within these specialty theatres
You will need
- Demonstrated clinical experience in the relevant practice area, with the capacity to provide clinical leadership, exercise professional judgement and initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the business of the unit/service in delivering the best outcomes within available resources, including a demonstrated understanding of patient flow principles and discharge planning in the pursuit of patient/client goals within a contemporary healthcare framework.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the evaluation, innovation and development of services provided by the unit/service and the review of clinical practice policy, procedures and protocols.

Details of appointment:
Permanent, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $106,570 to $112,440 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type
Salary Packaging:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

- Payment of $15,000 staged over three years is available for Nurses and Midwives who move to Tasmania from interstate and remain employed full time for three years or more, on top of relocation allowance already available.
