Job description:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Pharmacist - Medication Safety (Smart Pump) to join a high-performing team of pharmacists, nurses, and medical representatives within the Statewide Hospital Pharmacy service.

The Team:

The Safe Medication Practice Unit (SMPU) is a statewide multidisciplinary team with pharmacists, nursing and medical representation that sits within the Statewide Hospital Pharmacy service. SMPU supports and champions medication safety across the Tasmanian Health Service )THS) ensuring systems are in place to optimise medicine use and to reduce the risk of medicine-related harm.  

The Role:

In collaboration with the rest of SMPU the role supports hospital-wide and statewide multidisciplinary activities and programs that improve medication safety, with a focus of smart infusion pump (SmartPumps). Responsibilities include

  • maintenance of the SmartPump drug library
  • review, investigation and management of medication safety events relating to parenteral medicine administration
  • development and review of protocols, guidelines and other associated documents relating to the medication management process
  • support medication safety committees including accreditation readiness
  • provide strategic advice and professional support to pharmacy managers in relation to medication management and medication safety, particularly in relation to SmartPumps.

Details of appointment: Allied Health Professional, Level 4

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary: 

$123,717 to $138,296 per annum + our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Allowances: 

  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $130,900 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
  • Market allowance of $10,000 per annum, pro rata

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum
  • A market allowance of $10,000 per annum pro rata is applicable to this role

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia
    *For pre-registration (intern) pharmacists: Eligible for provisional registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Pharmacy Board of Australia or completion of an overseas qualification eligible for skills assessment through the Australian Pharmacy Council.

Applicants should note, the position features:

  • Intrastate travel will be a requirement of this role
  • Occasional interstate travel may be required
  • Participate in an on-call roster with other pharmacists for out-of-hours provision of pharmacy services, as needed
  • Remain on-call, as necessary, in emergency situations (eg. Code Brown, Pandemic, critical medication shortages)
