Job description:

Exciting opportunity for a Peer Worker to join the Department of Health!

The Team:

The Devonport Adult Community Mental Health Service (DACMHS NW) is a case management service that provides expert mental health care including assertive case management, triage, holistic physical and mental health assessment, clinical risk management and crisis intervention within the community setting.

The Role:

As part of the Mental Health Services Team, facilitate, co-ordinate and deliver high quality consumer focused mental health services in accordance with the National Standards for Mental Health Services, Agency policy and direction and legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies of the Peer Worker (Consumer or Carer) will:

  • Support the key tenets of the Operational Service Model (OSM) for the relevant area, which are to provide a supportive and therapeutic environment that promotes independence, opportunity, and recovery for people who maybe experiencing situational or suicidal distress.
  • Provide outcome focused, recovery orientated services to clients of the mental health service.
  • Use their lived experience of mental illness and recovery experience to share experiential knowledge, skills and strategies to support individuals to navigate the mental health system and social services system and optimise outcomes for friends, families and individuals.

Duties:

The Peer Worker (Consumer or Carer) will receive day to day  supervision and support via the Team Leader/Case Manager, or Delegate. The occupant will:

  • Work actively with their Team Leader/Case Manager to provide support and assistance to consumers and families, friends and carers attending the service. .
  • Liaise and receive support from Community Sector Consumer/Peer Worker networks.
  • Operate at all times in a respectful and professional manner, with a particular focus on being a positive role model and maintaining the dignity, rights and confidentiality of individuals attending the service.  
  • Champion a child safe culture that upholds the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. The Department is committed to the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children and young people, and expect all employees to actively participate in and contribute to our rights-based approach to care, including meeting all mandatory reporting obligations.
  • Where applicable, exercise delegations in accordance with a range of Acts, Regulations, Awards, administrative authorities and functional arrangements as mandated by Statutory office holders including the Secretary and Head of State Service. The relevant Unit Manager can provide details to the occupant of delegations applicable to this position. 
  • Comply at all times with policy and protocol requirements, including those relating to mandatory education, training and assessment.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. 

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: 

$67,193 to $70,993 per annum + our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.

  • Personal experience of mental illness and use of clinical mental health services
  • Current Driver’s Licence

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or willingness to work towards the same
  • Evidence of knowledge, skill and experience in the recovery approach
